A US appeals court has allowed thousands of lawsuits against Meta and other tech giants. These platforms face allegations of designing addictive features for young users. The court rejected appeals, stating Section 230 offers defense, not immunity from lawsuits. Meta also faces a multistate trial over data collection and platform design. This ruling follows a New Mexico court's decision on public nuisance and youth safety.
The companies are facing hundreds of additional lawsuits over similar claims in state court, with approximately 3,300 of them in a consolidated proceeding in California state court
