NASA launches $500,000 challenge to improve space weather predictions
In an effort to enhance the understanding of upper atmospheric conditions, NASA is inviting proposals for affordable technology solutions. The Orbital Clarity Challenge aims to refine predictions regarding satellite orbit variations caused by atmospheric drag. Participants stand to win up to $500,000 for their innovative concepts, along with the opportunity for a free test flight to test their technologies.
NASA-backed spacecraft to test satellite repair and orbital debris technology
NASA has launched a washing-machine-sized spacecraft to inspect up to four inactive satellites and rocket bodies in low Earth orbit. The SSPICY mission, launched on October 1, will begin inspections in early 2027. Using autonomous navigation, sensors and electric propulsion, the spacecraft will test technologies that could eventually help repair satellites or remove orbital debris.
