Google Drive Photo Backup Changes Kicks In Today

Google Drive ends Photos backups starting August 10: What users need to do

Starting August 10, 2026, the Google Drive desktop app will no longer support backup for Google Photos. Users are encouraged to switch to the dedicated Google Photos app for ongoing folder backups. Rest assured, all previously backed-up photos will remain intact during this transition. This change is aimed at streamlining backup processes and improving photo organization, leaving casual mobile users largely unaffected by this update.
